Updated: October 2026
Straight answers from people who live on the island: getting there, costs, when to go and what to do.
How do you get to Morro de São Paulo from Salvador, and how much does it cost?
Most people take the direct catamaran from Salvador's ferry terminal: about 2h20 to 2h30 and R$152.51 one way (R$138.71 back). If you get seasick, the semi-overland route (boat to Itaparica + road + short speedboat) takes about 3h30 and avoids open sea. The small plane takes about 25 minutes and costs from R$500 per leg.

The Volta à Ilha is a full day by boat around Tinharé Island, stopping at the natural pools of Garapuá and Moreré, Boipeba, the Inferno/Canavieiras river and Cairu. It's worth it if the day has a morning low tide; at high tide the pools lose much of their magic. With us it costs R$350 per person.
