When is the best time to visit Morro de São Paulo?

Updated: October 2026

Short answer: September to March is the best time: less rain and warm sea. April to July is the rainy season, with lower prices and a quiet village. September to November is, in our view, the best balance of weather, price and few crowds.

What's the weather like in Morro?

Tropical: it's never cold. Highs range from about 25 °C in July to 29–30 °C in summer, and the sea is warm all year. It rains less from September to February and noticeably more from April to July. Rain usually comes in short, heavy showers, not whole grey days.

For visitors from the north: the seasons are reversed. Your winter is Morro's summer and high season.

What's low season like? Is everything closed?

No. Almost everything runs, but some guesthouses, restaurants and operators cut hours or close for a few weeks; many owners take their holidays in May and June. Pros: near-empty beaches and better prices. Cons: more chance of rain and boat trips rescheduled because of the sea. Message ahead to check what's open.

When can you see whales?

Humpback whales pass along the Bahia coast between July and October. Dedicated trips leave from Morro and, with luck, you can spot them from the lighthouse viewpoint.

Do tides matter?

Much more than the weather. The natural pools at Garapuá and Moreré only appear at low tide; the walk to Gamboa needs it too. There are two low tides a day, about 50 minutes later than the day before. Before booking a tour, check the tide table (or ask us: we pick the time according to the tide).

What if it rains?

Showers pass quickly. Plan B: a long lunch in the village, the lighthouse viewpoint or the zipline when the sun comes out, a short boat trip or a clay session in Gamboa. More ideas in things to do in Morro.
