Updated: October 27, 2026

Why are there whales in Bahia?

Every southern winter, humpbacks travel up from Antarctica to the warm waters of the Brazilian coast to mate and give birth. The Bahia coast is one of their main areas.

What is the trip like?

A boat trip in a small group, about 4 hours long. We head out to where the whales are showing and watch from a safe distance: breaches, tail slaps, blows and, with luck, mothers with calves.

Are sightings guaranteed?

It's nature: in season the odds are good, but nobody can promise it. If the sea is rough, the trip is rescheduled.

What to bring

A light jacket, sunscreen, a cap, water and seasickness tablets if you need them: this is open sea.
